Why the Kids in Need Fund?
Imagine a child walking into his neighborhood school with a fresh haircut, wearing new clothes and carrying a backpack stuffed with the proper school supplies. This is a child ready to learn and be successful in school.
For over 52,000 FCPS students, the reality is much different. In the 2016-17 school year, close to 1 in every 3 FCPS students (27%) received free or reduced priced meals, an indicator that they, and their families, are living in poverty.
What the Fund Provides:
School Supply Kits
Personal Hygiene items
Laptops & Computers
Erase Lunch Debt
The Foundation's Kids in Need fund assists our social workers and teachers in providing necessary items to students who need them. Our schools benefit from a robust network of non-profits, businesses, faith-based groups and individuals who support these students in their local schools. The Foundation’s work supplements that of our community partners which enables us to assist more students each year.
Collect for Kids
One way the Foundation supports students in need is through our yearly school supply drive called "Collect for Kids." We raise funds to purchase school supplies for the 52,000 students who live in poverty so that they can start school armed with the resources they need to be successful.
The Foundation provided school supply kits to over 9,000 students in 2017.
