FCPS Employees Raise Over $7,000 for Homeless Students

In December, the Foundation for FCPS sent a plea to FCPS staff for gift cards to help homeless unaccompanied students.  As they always do, FCPS employees responded immediately and the donations rolled in, raising $7,200 in cash and gift cards.

The FCPS Homeless Liaison Office serves homeless students without a parent or guardian in our county. As can be imagined, it is a tremendous challenge for these students to live on their own and continue to be enrolled in school.  The donated gift cards were presented to the Homeless Liaison office to allow these students to purchase basic needs such as food, medicine, clothing and hygiene supplies. Upon receiving the multitude of gift cards Kathi Sheffel, FCPS Homeless Liaison, reported that she was overwhelmed with the generosity and kindness of her fellow FCPS employees.  Gift cards not handed out in December will be handed out to students throughout 2018, as the needs are ongoing.

If you are interested in donating gift cards for homeless students, please email Kathi Sheffel at Kathi.sheffel@fcps.edu.  Prefer to send a monetary donation?  Donate online to the Foundation for FCPS and select our Kids In Need Fund.  To learn more about services for homeless students go to the FCPS Website.
